US Holds Two-Minute Pause In Beating Of Protesters To Mark Death Of Civil Rights Icon John Lewis

img_6405At 1:00 AM EDT this morning police forces across the United States paused in their beating of Black Lives Matter protesters to mark the passing of one of America’s great civil right’s leaders, Congressman John Lewis, who was himself badly beaten by the police 55 years ago for making the audacious claim that black lives matter.

“We just felt moved to show the world that we are more than comfortable supporting the Black civil rights movement, as long as it’s six decades after the fact,” said a police officer in Los Angeles, as he stood between a disabled protester and the wheelchair he had just bodily removed him from.

“It felt like the right thing to do, to pause our non-aggressive aggression against peaceful protesters, and just take a moment to recognize the life of a man who first fought for justice in the streets in the 60’s, while reflecting on how different that is from these folks here, fighting for justice in the streets in 2020.”

With the allocated two-minutes complete, the officer then pushed over an elderly gentlemen who was standing with his arms behind his back, smashed a teenage girl in the clavicle, and tear-gassed a team of first responders who had arrived to treat the injured.

“We didn’t choose the time,” shouted a protester into the brief pause being held in honour of Congressman Lewis, in Portland, Oregon, “But the time chose us.” Nearby a police officer, dressed like someone from the bomb disposal squad with a history of kneeling on the detonator, scoffed at the outburst.

“What does that even mean?” he sneered, cracking his knuckles as the momentary cease-beating came to a close.

“John. Lewis. Was. A great man,” declared a federal agent dressed in military combat gear, between grunts as he beat a young black man with his carbon-fibre reinforced gloves.

The two-minutes had passed. It was back to normal in America. 1965 normal. 19-anytime normal. 21st century normal.
